“Professor Louis Vintaloro is an excellent coach and motivator. His teaching methods are highly effective because he breaks down even the most difficult tasks or techniques into clear, easy-to-understand, simple components and presents them with clarity and patience. Always eager to help the students, regardless of their age, experience, or belt, his corrections and ‘coaching points’ are direct, informative, and consistent. Because of his leadership, humility, and positive attitude, the environment at Performance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is the BEST — very comfortable, relaxed, and extremely upportive.

With my touring schedule and availability, it’s been hard to stay consistent with my training. When I met Louis Vintaloro through a mutual friend Christopher Brough, he spent some time with me on the mat refining my “traditional style” of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and helped smooth out the rough edges. In the limited time I had to train with Louis, I promptly experienced his high level of teaching. It was quickly obvious to me that his ability to analyze where and what I needed to focus on would help me bring my Gracie Jiu Jitsu out of the dusty attic and into todays modern academy. My time spent with Louis and his great ability to focus on what will work best for you in any given situation was very valuable to my growth in Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

I have been training at Performance Jiu-Jitsu since 2005. My only regret is that I did not start sooner. As a Police Officer in New Jersey I know the importance of self-defense. I believe that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the best no nonsense martial art out there. Many instructors can execute the moves but don’t know how to teach. Louis can do both. He’s an excellent instructor with a world of experience. I’m proud to say that I’m in the best shape of my life, and receiving instruction from a Royler Gracie Blackbelt.

PERFORMANCE JIU-JITSU / Brown Belt
I started training BJJ with Louis Vintaloro almost 4 years ago and I can’t put in to words how much it has helped me in my life. The gentle art, as it is called, is as much mental as it is physical, it has given me confidence, work ethic and most importantly, a more humble approach to life. To practice jiujitsu you must be humble and keep an open mind or you will eventually lose focus. Lucky for me, Performance Jiu-Jitsu offers the perfect balance of tough competition while keeping a very fun and open atmosphere. Because I travel a lot, I have had the opportunity to train at many gyms all over the world and In my opinion no one can break down the complex elements of jiu-jitsu better than Lou Vintaloro. Performance Jiu-Jitsu is much more than a place to train and learn BJJ it is a place of friends, I have made and cultivated so many great relationships in last four years and I am proud to say I am a member of PJJ.

As a law enforcement officer for over 20 years, I believe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the most effective self defense martial art for real life situations. Professor Louis Vintaloro learned Jiu-Jitsu directly from the Gracie Family earning his Black Belt from Royler Gracie himself. I have had the honor of being a student at Performance Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fair Lawn for over two years. At 44 years of age I lost 60lbs and kept it off. I noticed a huge boost in my endurance and energy and stress level has seemingly decreased. Training at PJJ helps keep me stay focused on my positive lifestyle changes including my diet. Prof. Louis Vintaloro, instructs almost every class at PJJ. Under his watchful eye he makes sure every student performs the moves correctly. Everyone at Performance Jiu-Jitsu helps each other no matter your age or rank. For those of you considering Jiu-Jitsu, this is the place to be. Whether you're a law enforcement officer, teacher, or a homemaker, you can do it! Two years ago at age 54 I joined The Performance Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I lost 40 pounds and feel like I’m back in college again. Master Louis has developed a unique culture of learning and camaraderie among all the students. This experience has me truly looking forward to my nights of Jiu-Jitsu.
Have been there three months so far. The head instructor Lou is extremely professional and welcoming. The atmosphere is very supportive, members all strive to help each other learn and grow as Jiu Jitsu martial artists. I originally joined to get into shape and lose some weight. In doing so, I have found BJJ to be both physically AND mentally interesting, fortifying, strengthening, as it tests your capacity to learn and grow in multiple dimensions. Would recommend to anyone.
Professor Lou’s teaching style is excellent, and he really takes his time to give everyone individual attention when there’s something that can be corrected in your game. Great atmosphere, everyone is helpful, humble, and respectful. Honestly one of my favorites places to be on any given day.
I’ve been a member of PJJ for about 3 months and I can’t get enough. The instruction from professor Lou and the help of everyone is class is second to none. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time, I’m moving my body more than I have in a while, and my stress levels are way down. It’s a great physical and mental workout. 11/10 recommend!!
If you are looking for the best Martial art school in the area - look no more, you found it. There are classes for all levels of skill and classes for kids. Amazing training partners and friendly atmosphere included.
Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class starts with a light stretch and warm-up. A lesson and concept are taught with very helpful details that make it easy for anyone to understand. We then pair up and practice the techniques. New students are paired up with more experienced students to help them along. In the White Belt Beginner Martial Arts Classes at our Bergen County academy, new students only drill the techniques until they're comfortable enough to spar.
Most people are surprised by how friendly and welcoming everyone is at PJJ, making your first Bergen County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class an enjoyable experience.
