Prospect Park is an urban park that is the second largest in Brooklyn, New York City. The park is maintained by a non-profit organization known as the Prospect Park Alliance. The Alliance was formed in 1987 in an attempt to breathe life back into the area that was in a state of decline. Thanks to the Alliance, the park today is healthier than ever and enjoys millions of visitors annually who enjoy the many benefits and activities available on its 526 lush, green acres.
Located at 450 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225, Prospect Park is wonderful for hosting barbecues, birthdays, or social events/special events. The park is home to dozens of athletic and recreational facilities including baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, and even a skating rink. The park is also dog friendly, as well as a bridal path for horseback riding.
Home to the first urban-area Audubon Center in the nation, park visitors can explore and learn about the park and its many diverse ecosystems. The Audubon Center has hands-on exhibits and live animals for children (and adults) of all ages. The Center also offers park visitors the option to borrow a free Discovery Pack which is filled with items to help explorers of the park discover the life and beauty around them.
Prospect Park also has its own zoo. The zoo is home to nearly 400 animals and 150 different species. The zoo has plenty of animals to see and exhibits to visit including a barn and garden exhibit which features friendly and gentle animals that you can feed and touch.
While you’re in Brooklyn, you might want to check out the New York Transit Museum. Visitors are able to explore and learn of the region’s land-based transportation history and progression. Explore galleries and exhibits, as well as a selection of vintage train cars and buses that have been fully restored.
Another area to be sure to check out is the Bushwick Collective. This is a non-profit outdoor gallery that talented artists from all over the world have contributed to. From breathtaking artwork and beautiful murals, this collection is something that no art lover will want to miss.
